Millers Softball team splits DH at SAGU


Game One: With Shaela On The Mound, JMU Millers Softball Shuts Out SAGU


Shaela Lawrence shut down Sagu, throwing a complete game shutout and leading JMU Millers Softball to a 17-0 victory on Friday JMU Millers Softball secured the victory thanks to nine runs in the fifth inning. Dusti Abshire, Paige Berg, Lawrence, Gabi Bruce, Lilly Ferreyra, and Asia Richard powered the big inning with RBIs. JMU Millers Softball got things started in the first inning. JMU Millers Softball scored two runs when Vanessa Sanchez homered (First HR in JMU Softball History) JMU Millers Softball tallied nine runs in the fifth inning. JMU Millers Softball big bats were led by Abshire, Berg, Lawrence, Bruce, Ferreyra, and Richard, all driving in runs in the inning. A single by #27 in the first inning was a positive for Sagu. Lawrence led things off in the pitcher's circle for JMU Millers Softball. The hurler allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out two and walking zero. #26 was on the rubber for Sagu. The hurler surrendered six runs on four hits over one inning, striking out three. #21 threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen. JMU Millers Softball hit one home run on the day. Sanchez went for the long ball in the first inning. JMU Millers Softball collected 17 hits on the day. Richard, Berg, Sanchez, Ferreyra, Rylie Johnson, Lawrence, Abshire, and Kayla Mendoza each managed multiple hits for JMU Millers Softball. Richard went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead JMU Millers Softball in hits. Game two: JMU Millers Softball Struggles to Find Groove Against SAGU It was a tough day on Friday for JMU Millers Softball, who lost 9-2 to Sagu JMU Millers Softball fired up the offense in the first inning, when Paige Berg singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Sagu pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second #10 singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and #23 singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Sagu scored three runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Sagu came thanks to an error on a ball put in play by #21 and a double by #1. #17 got the start for Sagu. The hurler surrendered one run on three hits over three innings, striking out one and walking zero. Shaela Lawrence led things off on the rubber for JMU Millers Softball. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on 12 hits over four and a third innings, striking out one and walking one. Asia Richard threw one and one-third innings in relief. JMU Millers Softball smacked one home run on the day. Berg went deep in the fifth inning. Berg went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead JMU Millers Softball in hits. Sagu tallied 12 hits. #20, #1, #23, and #10 each collected multiple hits for Sagu. Sagu didn't commit a single error in the field. #19 had the most chances in the field with three.
