Millers Baseball goes 1-1 on the weekend at SW Mississippi



Game 1: Nick Webre Drives in Four to Seal JMU Millers Baseball's Victory Over Southwest Mississippi CC Bears Bears Varsity

Nick Webre was clutch at the plate with runners on base on Friday, driving in four on three hits to lead JMU Millers Baseball past Southwest Mississippi CC Bears Bears Varsity 11-4 on Friday. Webre drove in runs on a double in the second and a home run in the seventh. In the first inning, JMU Millers Baseball got their offense started when Armand Daigre singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. JMU Millers Baseball tallied three runs in the seventh inning. Webre had an RBI home run in the inning to lead the run scoring. Nathen Paul led the JMU Millers Baseball to victory on the hill. Paul went four innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out three. Payton Albert threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Game 2: Fewer Hits Still Spells Win For Northwest Mississippi CC Against JMU Millers Baseball JMU Millers Baseball fell 7-3 to Northwest Mississippi CC on Friday despite out-hitting them six to five. Northwest Mississippi CC opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored three runs for Northwest Mississippi CC. In the bottom of the third inning, JMU Millers Baseball tied things up at three when Quincy Kelly singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Northwest Mississippi CC pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Craig's sac fly scored one run for Northwest Mississippi CC. Northwest Mississippi CC scored three runs in the sixth inning. Northwest Mississippi CC batters contributing to the big inning included Cheatham and Greer, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Lofton was the winning pitcher for Northwest Mississippi CC. The ace lasted four innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out five. #19, #25, and #28 all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Moose Ortego took the loss for JMU Millers Baseball. The pitcher went five innings, allowing four runs on two hits and striking out two.
